The United States Acting Ambassador to Georgia Elisabeth Rood visited the settlement of Tserovani nearby the capital of Tbilisi, where internally displaced people (IDPs) have been living since the 2008 Russia-Georgia war.
"In the 11 years since the Russian invasion of Georgia, each of these houses has come to tell a story of loss – the loss of families, friends, homes, and loved ones. But they also tell stories of courage, friendship, and the resilience of people and the country they love”, Rood said.
She also underscored that the US “proudly continues to stand with Georgia in caring for those communities displaced by the war and helping to ensure they have a dignified life here until they may safely return to their homes”.
The European Union Monitoring mission to Georgia (EUMM) also wrote on the official Facebook page that although their mandate "is valid" throughout Georgia "the de-facto authorities of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have so far denied us access to the territories under their control".
