Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Georgia, Fady Asly wrote on his facebook page that he has won the legal dispute against judge Vladimer Kakabadze in the Supreme Court of Georgia.

The full post reads as follows:

“Dear friends,

I am glad to inform you that the Supreme Court of Georgia has rejected the claim of Judge Vladimir Kakabadze against me, regarding my statements of 2017 saying that in my opinion he was a corrupted judge. (Cases of PMI, BAT and Terabank).

Judge Kakabadze had won his case in his own City Court and at the Appellation Court  as well; I cannot hide from you the extent of my great surprise for winning this case, as I was sure that in solidarity with their colleague, the Supreme Court would rule in his favour as well.

From the ruling that I have seen today, I can compare the Supreme Court to a flickering candle flame, I sincerely hope that this flickering flame will not be blown out by the incorporation of the controversial judges that are subject to the tug of war between the the Georgian Dream and the Civil Society.”

The reason for suing Fady Asly in Tbilisi City Court was the statement he made in the TV program “Analytics” with Elene Kvanchilashvili. Asly called Vladimer Kakabadze a corrupt judge, because he was protesting judge’s decision to fine international companies British American Tobacco and PMI with more than 90 million USD.

Vladimir Kakabadze filed the lawsuit against Fady Asly in May 2017 and the court ruled that plaintiff should be compensated by 20 000 GEL for moral damages. Kakabadze won the case in two courts, however Supreme Court of Georgia made the decision in favour of Fady Asly.
