As from 2019, the Universal Healthcare Program will cooperate only with large clinics, which perform 750 childbirth/C-section annually. By now, minimum limit is 500 deliveries. As we were explained in the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection, requirements to the maternity homes will be made stricter within the framework of selective contracts, goal of which is to comply with international standards.
After the changes, contract with tens of maternity homes under the Universal Healthcare Program can not be prolonged. The state finances childbirth for all women with 500 GEL, with no regard to their financial situation. Contracts have been prolonged for 22 clinics till 1st April 2019. With 4 clinics contracts have not expired yet and 4 clinics were excluded from the Universal Healthcare Program according to new regulations.
