The National Wine Agency of Georgia rejected 93 wines for export

The National Wine Agency of Georgia rejected 93 wine samples out of 2 439 selected for export. As the representatives of the Agency stated to BM.ge, while tasting the wines it turned out that the above wines did not comply with various criteria, thus they were rejected for the export market.

As from 1 January, based on the amendment of the Law of Georgian on Vines and Wine, all the categories of export wine, are subject to mandatory tasting. Before this applied only to the wines with appellation of origin. The Taste Panel of the National Wine Agency conducted 63 tastings foe the purpose of organoleptic testing of alcoholic drinks made of grapes.

The above amendment preconditioned the increase of number of wine-tasters in the National Wine Agency. The Agency held a competition to select 14 wine-tasters. At the initial stage, of 40 contesters 23 were shortlisted. The second stage resulted in selection of 5 wine-tasters of 9, who got involved in tasting process.

This year, to obtain export papers 1647 applications were submitted for certification to the National Wine Agency, which is 300 more than last year. Based on the submitted applications, papers for different purposes were issued, namely: VI-1 Form Certificate (for EU countries) – 1391; Certificate of Conformity – 1433.

The Certification Department of the National Wine Agency of Georgia has issued 2824 certificates for various companies producing alcoholic drinks, which is 600 more than the number of certificates issued in Q1 last year.
