Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze gave a warning to Anaklia Consortium Group. Accoridng to the PM, it would be better if the organization started construction of the port, instead of talking about ‘exploitative’ agreement.

“I have commented several times regarding this and I want to repeat again. We are dealing with a very bad case, as we see the attempt of connecting the case [TBC Bank case] which is being investigated now, with the Anaklia port project. There is no connection between these two. The development of the idea of constructing a port started several years ago and this happened with our initiative. This project is the inseparable part of our vision.

We believe that the best model for developing this project is the partnership of the state and the private sector, meaning the realization through private sector and not through government support. Moreover, I would like to note that we do not want this process to be prolonged. We’ve seen postponement on several occasions. We, as well as the participants of consortium, should be focused on starting the construction as soon as possible, not on discussing who signed up to which exploitative agreements.”, stated Prime Minister Bakhtadze.

The term exploitative was first used by former chair of TBC Bank’s supervisory board, Mamuka Khazaradze at the hearing of the Budget and Finance Committee at the Parliament of Georgia.
