"We look forward to even more NATO in Georgia and more Georgia in NATO next year" noted James Appathurai, Special Representative of the Secretary General of NATO for the Caucasus and Central Asia after his meeting with Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia today.

Key topic of the meeting was the progress achieved in the relations between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Georgia, along with the steady reforms implemented in the country.

It was noted at the meeting that 2018 was particularly successful within the scope of NATO-Georgia interaction and progress achieved in recent years is particularly noteworthy. According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Euro-Atlantic aspiration of the country is a high-level priority of the Government, which is eagerly supported by the Georgian people.

"I had an excellent discussion with the Prime Minister. We talked about a full range of issues: first and foremost, about the steady reforms and steady progress in Georgia's way towards NATO. He expressed the Government's continued firm determination to carry out the will of the people, which is the Euro-Atlantic future. I, of course, expressed my commitment and our commitment to make that happen. So, we have discussed the concrete ways to do that in terms of more cooperation on Black Sea security, more support for reforms here in Georgia - which is happening well - and practical cooperation on operation. So, a lot has been discussed on what we can do together. Next year we'll see more NATO in Georgia; we should have a lot of high-level visits - more than this year, so that we really show to Georgian people that this cooperation is paying off and that NATO is committed. Finally, we talked about the aftermath of the elections. I congratulated him on the elections, but also expressed some concerns about the polarization of the political dialogue. He recognized that and said that Georgian people want a calm and less polarized discussion going forward. What we want in NATO is an inclusive political process. Of course, he recognized that and said that it is what Georgian people want as well. So, I was encouraged by those words. Finally, I think we both look forward to even more NATO in Georgia and more Georgia in NATO next year" noted James Appathurai.

Meeting between the Prime Minister of Georgia and Special Representative of the Secretary General of NATO for the Caucasus and Central Asia was held today at the Government Administration.
