Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze presented a new initiative in regards to payment for parking. Initiative involves switching from current payment system to an hourly and zone system.
Initiative suggests dividing the capital of Georgia into several zones, where each zone will have a fixed price for a 1-hour parking. Moreover, drivers will be given free 15 minutes for four times a day, which they can use in any parking area.
Drivers will be available to purchase parking tickets with a special application, as well as special machines which will be placed on parking areas.
According to Kaladze, the new system will not affect those who park near their houses.
“the money that will be received via this system will be transferred to Tbilisi Transport Company. The municipality will strengthen public transport system”, stated Kaladze during the presentation.
According to the Mayor of Tbilisi, the pilot version of the implementation of this project will start on July 1 and it will cover several streets of Tbilisi.
The initiative has already been sent to Tbilisi City Assembly for approval.
