Education is the Lowest Paid Sector

Among the economic sectors of Georgia, the education system has the lowest paid average salaries. Based on the third quarter of 2018, an average monthly salary of those contracted in the education system came to 586 GEL. Compared to the indicators from the previous year the salaries have only increased by 21 GEL. Geostat has been recording these statistics since 2007 and over the past 11 years education has always been one of the lowest paid sectors. Average salaries based on professions are as follows:

Education - 586 GEL per month;
Agriculture - 702 GEL per month;
Hotels, restaurants - 906 GEL per month;
Utility and social services - 913 GEL per month;
Processing industry - 960 GEL per month;
Health care - 985 GEL per month;
Trade - 1028 GEL per month;
State Governance - 1320 GEL per month;
Energy - 1329 GEL per month;
Mining industry - 1359 GEL per month;
Transport and Communications - 1402 GEL per month;
Customer service - 1482 GEL per month;
Construction - 1721 GEL per month;
Financial activity - GEL 2354 per month

With regards to the overall average salary, in the third quarter of 2018 it was 1,125 GEL. The average nominal monthly salary is 56.4 GEL higher compared with the previous year. Note: The statistics mentioned above only cover the officially employed workforce, therefore they do not include thousands of those who are employed informally without a contract or those that are self-employed.
