„The location of the reservoir of Nenskra HPP is 7 km away from the nearest settlement and will have no effect on any house or family”, - said to “Interpressnews” Teimuraz Kopadze, Chief Operations Officer of “Nenskra Hydro”, developer of Nenskra HPP project. According to him, the future location for the dam mainly consists of communal hayfields and grazing fields. The surface area of the reservoir will be 2.7 km 2 compared to 13.5 km2 of Enguri HPP. “The area to be flooded where the reservoir will be located is 7 km away from the nearest settlement and will have no effect on any house or family.

This was a particular part of the project to avoid any social impact on the community. Therefore, there is no resettlement or infringement on private property. However, the reservoir naturally will catch some land which has been used by the community. Some area includes hayfields and grazing fields that will be fully compensated in compliance with international standards. This also includes cash compensation and restoration programs that means creation of alternative grazing fields with relevant access roads, and other livelihood”, - stated the Chief Operations Officer of “Nenskra Hydro”. As he said, this concerns the communal grazing fields that will be partly taken. According to Mr. Kopadze, the assessment of the area and compensation rates are being carried out in line with international standards. As he explained, after reaching a consent with direct users, an agreement is concluded and only after this the particular land plots are taken.

“The 80% of the compensation agreements have been done. The compensation has been paid. However, the process is not over yet. There are still some areas left under negotiations. As I said, the compensation is not paid by cash only. As to the amount of the compensation issued and the number of the families that received it, it can’t be named as the agreements concluded with the company is confidential”, said Mr. Kopadze.
